What does your role entail, day-to-day?
I manage a portfolio of clients that covers a range of industries, including the medical sector, builders, game developers and the tech industry, wholesalers, and high-net-worth family groups.
My day is spent liaising with clients and advising on business matters and tax technicalities. This includes working in the mergers and acquisitions space, having recently been heavily involved in the sale of a number of businesses which came to LDB Group in their infancy and start-up stages. I enjoy building relationships with clients and being part of their business journey over many years.
Working closely with the team I manage, we support clients in meeting all our client’s business and tax compliance obligations, including preparing income tax returns, financial reports, business activity statements (BAS), and more. Being a full-service firm, I collaborate with the various teams to ensure our service is cohesive and holistic.
What is your specialist area?
I work with a lot of companies in the game development industry, so that is my main niche. This includes tech companies that develop apps, computer games and console games.
I help them with everything from setting up the financial structure of their business to ongoing advice, across early start-up phase through to growing into a larger business. It is really rewarding being part of that process – that’s something I really enjoy about my job.
One example is a tech company I have been working with since they started up about 10 years ago and now they are selling their business. It has been really great to guide them through the different business phases and watch them grow. It has been a holistic journey including supporting them in sourcing initial funding, such as finding grants or accessing tax concessions, through to advising them on broader business growth.
I have the privilege of attending game development conferences, such as GCAP, where I share this knowledge with the gaming industry through presentations and workshops.
What do you love about your job?
I enjoy seeing businesses transition through their growth phases, and supporting them in navigating the challenges along the way.
It is fulfilling guiding a company as it evolves and helping them to develop their understanding of the financial aspects of their business.
Working with businesses that scale also means I am presented with new challenges and new problems to solve along the way, which keeps it really interesting.
What are your interests and hobbies?
I love the AFL and I am a massive Carlton fan, so you’ll likely find me at the footy on most weekends. I’m a proud Carlton club member and I come from a family of Carlton fans.
Otherwise, I spend a lot of time with friends and family. I love being the favourite aunty and spoiling my new nieces and nephew.
What was your favourite holiday?
Fiji was a memorable trip for me – I really enjoyed all the water activities including going out on the boat, snorkelling, and swimming in the ocean. The people are just so lovely in Fiji, and the culture and customs are really warm and inviting.
What’s your favourite book, film or TV show?
Having made very good use of my Netflix subscription, there is not much I haven’t seen. I love a good drama with substance – one of my all-time favourite TV shows is Suits. I also really liked Money Heist. They’re the kind of shows that make you think.
